If you’ve never seen the TV show Stingray, I highly recommend Netflicking it. It ran from ’85 to ’87 and shares a few similarities with shows like Miami Vice, except that the storyline is much more complex and clever, and the wardrobe isn’t quite as over the top corny. This could be because Stingray was based in Los Angeles where fashion was a bit more restrained, compared to Miami where people actually still dress like Sonny Crocket to this day.
The main character is a mysterious dude with a cloudy past who drives a ’65 Corvette Stingray and goes around helping people, accepting no money in return, but stating that he will reappear at an unknown time in the future, and ask for a return favor.
Here are a few grabs from my TV screen, including one featuring Mark Paul Gosselaar years before his performance as Zach in Saved by the Bell.
